Perfect parent? Of course notthere's no such thing. But in today's highly stressful, competitive parenting environment, that's exactly what so many of us strive to be. Unfortunately, that can cause undue pressure on our children, resulting in the very behaviors we're trying to avoidtemper tantrums, fighting, power struggles, and refusal to cooperate.
We begin to think that everyone else is doing a great job and we're not. We begin to put our energy into "getting" our children to look and behave in certain ways, because we have the idea that other people are watching and judging us. Instead of parenting from our best, we start parenting from our fear. And before long we feel the downward spiral of these assumptions. Parenting is tough enoughwe don't need to make it worse by thinking that the world is judging us based on the actions of our four-year-old.
The Parenting on Track program is all about discovering where you are as a parent and as a familyright nowtoday, and where it is YOU want to go. The first step in this discovery process is realizing that everything you do is either interfering with or enhancing the relationship you have with your children and their developing independence. The next step is to take the insights you gained during your self-discovery and apply them to a new vision for your family life.
Parenting is a journey, and every smart traveler carries a roadmap. We teach you how to use the information you gathered in the discovery process to create your own Personal Parenting Roadmap. You'll identify where you are today, where you want to be in 6 months or 18 years, and then come up with a plan for navigating the distance in between.
