Once you join Parent Talk, there are a number of ways to get involved. For example, consider joining one of the organization's many working committees. Volunteering with Parent Talk is a great way to meet new people and build long-term relationships. It also keeps your resume current and adds a community component to your list of professional and personal accomplishments.
The Caring Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers who prepare and deliver meals to member families who are in need of a helping hand after the birth of a new baby, during a difficult pregnancy, or who are dealing with a prolonged illness or a death in the family.
The communications committee oversees Parent Talk's newsletter, Parent Talk Matters, and the organization's website. PT's website contains the most current Parent Talk information, past newsletter editions, and links to various community resources. The newsletter features articles by guest authors, parent review articles, community events, parenting tips and ideas, and of course, all the news and happenings of the organization.
Parent Talk is committed to being actively involved in our community. Among our outreach efforts are Thanksgiving meal deliveries, holiday toy drives, food drives, baskets of toiletries for women's shelters, Project Night-Night, intergenerational events at local nursing homes, and our Caring Committee.
The Events Committee plans and runs monthly events for children and families. Past favorites have included Barn Babies, puppet shows, backyard playdates, daytrips to a farm and other outings.
The Fundraising committee develops and maintains relationships with Parent Talk's corporate sponsors, plans and organizes select fundraising events, and oversees the Used Clothing, Toy & Equipment Sale.
The lecture series features speakers who educate members and non-members on topics relevant to early childhood development and parenting.
The marketing committee is responsible for all external marketing and public relations for Parent Talk as well as for the organization's individual events.
This committee introduces new potential members to Parent Talk and orients new members to the organization's numerous benefits, events, and services.
The Playspace Committee oversees the Parent Talk Playspace, a members-only indoor play area at the Caryl School in Dover.
Parent Talk's semi-annual Used Clothing, Toy and Equipment sale is Parent Talk's largest fundraiser and provides a tremendous service to the numerous charitable organizations that receive all unsold items at the sale's conclusion.
